Arcade in the Attic

As we've been settling more and more into our new place, myself, my beloved, and our Boy-Toy have been working working on our attic space, adding a couch (or half of one, the frame was too big and one giant piece, so only the cushions went), a television, and some old game consoles (our newest and oldest addition as of last night was the Atari 2600). As a result, I've been reliving my childhood playing Mega Man X.

Personally, I'm not a gamer. I play games, quite gladly, am willing to say that sometimes I do so regularly. God forbid I should find myself online playing Call of Duty with some pre-pubescant punks screaming into my ears, though. Most games today, I have a hard time finding some that I want to go out of my way for, as for the most part I have a few different series that I'm loyal to. Which is why breaking out some of these antiques has been somewhat therapeutic, I think: There are no more-- or at least very few original ideas left out there, and a lack of heart (that's just one bloggers opinion.)

It's been nice to go through the ol' basket-O-games that my family had collected over time, and just sit down and run through them. Fighting the level bosses who to this day you still don't see remade (unless there is in fact a flat out remake of the game, which has been happening a lot more often lately...), side scrolling for minutes at a time, unique enemies... Even though it's a simple formula, it's one that doesn't get old and run together as quickly as most today.

All in all, my real point here is this: Vinyl came back, why can't the arcade?

I would fully support a revival of arcades. Especially the bar + arcade combo (like Barcade in Brooklyn).
